Quikr, One of the topmost classified ads platform that is planning to launch grocery and on demand delivery food services for its customers. Quikr wants to provide these services to its clients by partnering with some local restaurants and local stores from where customers can order something that is related to grocery or food items.
In food delivery, Quikr will compete with on demand platforms such as Zomato, Swiggy.
While, in grocery delivery, it will compete with Grofers, Bigbasket.
Online Grocery and Food Delivery - A Tough Challenge for Quikr
The Indian online grocery market is said to be the tough segment gaining to low-profit margins due to local offline vendors. Despite offering free doorstep delivery service in grocery or in food items, startups such as PepperTap which initially managed to gain good attraction with the audience but, could not sustain for a longer period and compete with other firms to dominate online grocery space.
As shared, almost all grocery players have stores in urban areas and in almost around 10 major big cities. Online grocery players on the other hand mostly cater to big four to five cities. Since, quikr has launched it's on demand services into classified ads, later on, they are spreading their services into various verticles like home services, laundry services, beauty services, online recruitment etc.
While concluding, The Indian online grocery market is estimated to reach $40 million by the financial year 2019, growing at a rate of 62% from 2016 to 2022. It has been said that the online food and grocery segment will become the fastest segment with an annual growth rate of more than 130%. For instance, the Bengaluru based online grocery startup company, Bigbasket established a greater presence in the online on-demand grocery as well as on demand food delivery app. We have to see how Quikr will be able to make its resources to excel will be worth watching.
